Welcome to Urban Day School and Early Childhood Education Program

Urban Day School, known for 43-years as Wisconsin's first nonsectarian community supported private school, is now a CHARTER SCHOOL. This means:

  • Principal Shandowlyon Hendricks-Williams, New Leaders for New Schools Fellow, recognized in Wisconsin as a distinguished principal and outstanding teacher
  • Strong partnerships with school families
  • A strong academic program for your child
  • A highly energized and positive staff of teachers and administrators
  • Improved instructional materials
  • Higher expectations for learning
  • Teaching staff trained to tailor instruction to individual student needs
  • Upgraded computer systems, new text books
  • Clear school policies and procedures and report cards
  • Simple enrollment procedures
  • Advocacy for families

Children's awareness of their ability to acquire knowledge, master skills, and control their actions is key to lifelong learning and growth. Our nationally-accredited Elementary school features challenging academics including advanced math and literature, foreign language, computer science, debate, and music. Urban Day graduates attend Milwaukee's premiere high schools.

URBAN DAY EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION PROGRAM prepares 3 and 4 year olds for Kindergarten and Elementary school. Creative Curriculum teaches academic skills, self-respect, respect for others, and love of learning. The program includes Head Start, licensed Day Care, Before-and-After-School Day Care, and Wrap-around Day Care.

Urban Day Early Childhood and Urban Day Charter School offer Child and Family Advocacy Services for children and families from 3-years through 8th grade to insure that children are engaged in learning and excel.

Welcome to Urban Day School!

Character formation is integral to Urban Day education.
On our walls are the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"We must remember that intelligence is not enough.
Intelligence plus character; that is the goal of true education."
