Curriculum
Urban Day School follows the Creative Curriculum in Head Start classrooms.
(Day Care teachers in wrap-around classrooms are trained in Creative Curriculum, enhancing learning for students receiving before and after school care.) The Creative Curriculum creates opportunities for individualized instruction based on each child’s developmental level.
All activities are age-appropriate, ensuring that each child has the opportunity to reach his/her full potential.
Parent / Teacher conferences are held to discuss goals for the children, and to report on the progress in the program.
All activities are designed to assist and guide children with:
- Social and emotional development
- Physical development
- Cognitive development
- Development of language skills
- Literacy skills
- Math skills
- Science
- Creative arts
- Using various approaches to learning

Classroom Advocates work with you and your family on a one-on-one basis to assist in meeting your needs. Classroom Advocates connect you with resources within the community and assist you in attaining your family goals. At Urban Day School, you have a Classroom Advocate who is your special contact with the school, so you can go to the same person regarding any issues you have regarding your child and the school.
Parent Involvement
Urban Day’s Early Childhood Dept. offers family and adult programs that provide numerous opportunities for you and your family to be involved with your child’s education. Some programs are geared toward family entertainment, while others are oriented toward education, nurturing, teaching new skills, providing information, and providing support.
Parent involvement is encouraged and Urban Day School has opportunities for parents to participate in policy decision-making. There are many opportunities for parents to volunteer at Urban Day School.
