Support Services

The Urban Day mission is to provide an engaging and challenging academic program conducted in an environment of encouragement and support. To ensure that we meet our goal, the school provides learning specialists, social workers and a family advocate at both campuses to meet the learning and social-emotional needs of students.

The program seeks to develop an understanding and appreciation of a student's learning needs while also identifying a student's strengths. Early identification and intervention of learning needs are important goals. The student support team, comprised of the Student Services Coordinator, learning specialists, social worker and counselor, meet regularly to update and track student progress. Intervention plans are put in place and reviewed regularly.

Faculty

Excellence in teaching is the heart of an outstanding school. Urban Day seeks to recruit, develop, and retain teachers with the highest professional standards and skills, especially those who are committed to working in the urban setting. We are committed to hiring teachers who demonstrate a commitment to the life of the mind and development of character and citizenship in children.

A good sense of humor and a big heart are also prerequisites for employment at Urban Day. Teachers not only teach our students academic and social skills, but are the role models that children look up to for guidance. A commitment to teamwork and professionalism based on mutual respect and a high level of performance characterizes the Urban Day faculty.

School Accreditation

Urban Day School is an accredited school working with AdvancED (formerly NCA). AdvancED is the unified organization of the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), and National Study of School Evaluation (NSSE). AdvancED is dedicated to advancing excellence in education through accreditation, research, and professional services.

In order to be accredited Urban Day must:
   1. Meet high standards.
   2. Engage in continuous progress.
   3. Demonstrate quality assurance through an external review.

Parent Involvement

Parent involvement in school is essential for our students’ success. Parents are invited to be active participants within the school. Whether participating on a planning committee, helping with special projects, volunteering for special events, watching children perform, tutoring, coaching, or conferring with teachers, parent or guardian involvement sends a strong message to the students.

Urban Day’s history as a premiere choice school is based on a long history of parent interest and involvement. Urban Day welcomes parent input, knowing that a child’s first teacher is always his/her parents.
